That's just...electric. You should be working as a DP someday soon!

*I've got a beach near me, but obviously no aquarium like the one(s) you filmed some sequences...

Yet again so many wonderful shots!

I assume u use the letus mini?

Quite a keen eye for interesting images you have.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
I don't know what a letus mini is. I assume an adapter or something? Thank you so much for the compliments!

Stunning video man! You just used the HV30 and that's it? No additional adapters? Good cinematography.

How did you made those underwater shots? Or you just have a very deep bath tube at home holding Earth's most endangered species?

What did you use for the color grading? Nice processing. Two thumbs up. :D
ps: I love your Planes of Paris shot. It's yours right?

    Cheers, Richard.

A feast for the eyes! I loved it. So many wonderful images. The sprinklers in the field, the sand on the surf, the roving through the flowers shots... too much goodness to mention. Interesting edits throughout. Bravo.

Nice job timing the edits to the music. I can't imagine how much original footage you must have shot.
I love the jellyfish at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, but all I get are blurs when I try to photograph them. Too dark for my camera, I guess. Good job.

  • Color, texture, screen direction, music, sound efx, edit, grading all marvelous.

For an outstanding body of work done with just an HV30, I’ve decided that Matthew should receive the third Z-KUDOS award. He will receive $500 of Zacuto products of his choice. Additionally, he is going to have a write up about him in my Blog and on our website.

Congratulations and thanks for showing us all that it’s skill and not equipment that makes a great filmmaker.
    Best, Steve Weiss

Mesmerizing! You really have a gift for Film. I am taking lessons from your Vids!

Can you tell me what are your preferred bands for the music you use? It really helps bring out the drama - especially with the exposure. Do you always use low exposure? What do you do on a sunny day to still get the colors/effect?

    Thanks!
  • Matthew Brown plus 7 months ago
    Thank you so much, Steve!

Bands/artists I'm influenced in the music by are Efterklang, Yann Tiersen, The Album Leaf, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer, John Murphy, Sigur Ros, Lisa Gerrard, etc.

I don't always use low exposure. In my newer spring videos there is actually some pretty high exposure. I usually try not to shoot on sunny days, but when I do I try to find things in shaded areas, or just mess with the images in post to get them to come out as good as possible.

Really astounding! your pictures are like a dream.
    You have such talent!
How did you get to do the video for efterklang?
It seems that you artistic vision was made to go with the pure magic of Efterklang! THanks so much...
    Thanks for the inspiration...
  • Matthew Brown plus 5 months ago
Thank you very much! Yeah, I did the video as a vacation video, but then Efterklang randomly saw it on youtube and asked me if they could use it as their official music video. I was so happy! And yeah, there is a lot of color correcting in the editing. This video definitely doesn't look like what the raw, stock footage of the camera looks like. A lot of post work was involved. Thank you for the really kind comment and message! Take care! :)

    Thanks for your answer;-)
One last question, sorry a technical borring one!
The way you use depth of field is very graphic, almost painting like. Is it the stock lense or some 35 adaptor?
wander how you get all those colors. I have to start working on that ;-)
  • Matthew Brown plus 5 months ago
None of it is done with an adapter. It's all the naked camera. I just play with the zoom and manual focus while shooting and it gives pretty much the same effect as an adapter. As for the colors, it's just a lot of post work.
