95. Lighting Test
Nothing special to see here, just a lighting test, basic 3 point lighting.

Got new additions to my light kit, thought I'd test it out on my best friend.

This was also an assignment for one of my classes.
(Non colour - corrected footage.)
*Note: Next time, don't have subject so close to the background.

haha cool funny to see the difference of the different lighting
  • Yeah, hopefully I can learn more, I'm such a bitch at lighting.

Only you could take something so simple and typically mundane and turn it in enjoyable art.

by the by, the font was very Wes Anderson
  • this video is futura
    Futura is wes anderson
    and wes anderson is love
    therefore this video is love.

haha i dont think i would call this art, more of a test. hee hee

I saw the thumbnail of the video and thought the exact thing.

    "Hey, it's Wes Anderson's font."

He owns that font (though so did you).
  • haha

I give the assignment an "A" - music gets an 8.5, a little hard to dance with :-) For extra credit try adding a hair light straight above
  • yeah I couldn't get that "halo". very limited space to work with. essentially had to bounce the backlight off of the wall so everything's pretty soft. I wanna try different things soon...I'm so bad at lighting things hopefully I can get a better hang of this stuff, it's rather intimidating. Thanks a lot for the feedback. :-)

Good stuff, but you need to pull him off the wall and set the back light further back. It'll separate him more.

Sorry, lighting was my thing as a photojournalist; won three awards because of my lighting....but that was years ago....maybe things are different now. /shrug.
  • oh man totally agree (see note in description).

Pfft i suck at lighting, come be my gaffer.
  • Paul Davis plus 1 year ago
    lol...ok.

Hey....didn't you buy several cartridges of Super 8 film recently? You putting anything together with them?

the editing is really the language of film. Editing is the narrative. This video shows it well.
From a lightthing test you can be creative too.
    Nice video
  • Thanks a lot Santiago..i figure even though I have stupid assignments or just make tests. might as well make the most of it and have fun with it, you know?

cool! if you could get a boom stand so the hair light is right over the head, you'll get a totally killer look. see lowel.com/edu/components_interview.html check out the boom arm from manfrotto called the 420b, around $149 i just posted a vid showing it - double as a mic boom too :)
  • oh sweet. Yeah i think the problem was that there wasn't enough room. Because the light extends really high but we were in such a confined space. And the light, even on a boom arm or C stand would've taken up too much space. But lesson learned, choose a bigger space next time. haha.

Thanks so much for the link I'm gonna peep it out. :-)
