There is a National Park about 5 miles away from my house which happens to be a Rock Climbing Mecca. I took out my recently constructed DIY Dolly and my buddy Warren's ZU1 and took a couple of hours to see if I could capture this beautiful of this place.

What do you think?

Still tweaking the color.

Very well done, as i can see the dolly works just fine, and the place looks amazing!

Very nice. Some good angles, cool music, but I would've liked to have seen the dolly used a bit more (just to show off how well it is working since it was in your preview notes). Also, is this playing at 30 (or 24) fps, because it was a bit jittery on my G5, so i'm guessing i might be seeing it at about 15 fps. Just wondering. Take care, and keep shooting! : )

It should be 30p but I must admit that it is not the best encoding job out there. I need to redo it. I don't think my dolly is ready for Primetime. I need better wheels and longer track. Oh and a paint job! ;) . But I must say it was easy to carry around! Thanks for the comments

I know it's a rather personal question, but how long are your dolly tracks? Also, i wouldn't worry about the paint...the color of the dolly won't show up on the screen : ) So do you do the encoding or does Vimeo? I just joined today because of your link...

The Track was only 5 feet long. The shots I used it on I was full telephoto. A giant pain in the you know what!

Very nice Matt. What is the music?
  • Matthew Pugerude 2 months ago
Warren the Music was Swell Season by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova with Marja Tuhkanen and Bertrand Galen.

Man that was a lot to type.

  • I love Smith Rocks - how I envy that you only live 5 miles from there.
Great shots - did you have a 35 mmm adapter? What lens(es) did you use?

All I had was the Zu1, pair of sticks and a DIY dolly. That broke right when I got there. Thank goddness for Gaffe tape. :)
  • I am looking into building a dolly myself. What did you use for a track? PVC? Aluminum? What about the wheels? Did you use roller blade or skate board wheels?
