My third 3d fractal music clip for my ambient/drone/experimental project called Musicians With guns. This track will be released soon on Perso Records : persorecords.tumblr.com/

Stay tuned for the first Musicians With Guns LP on Entropy Records, March 2011 (pressed CD, limited series 500 copies) : entropy-records.com/

The fractal imagery was made with Mandelbulb 3d, a fantastic - and free ! - program by Jesse (PC only). More infos about Mandelbulb 3d, Jesse and 3d fractals on fractalforums : fractalforums.com/

unbelievable! I would pay good money to watch this in Imax 3D!
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Thank you very much Lee ! I'd love to see it myself hehe. However for such an occasion I'll have to get rid of this nasty aliasing.

  • Pretty amazing. Felt like I was watching Inception all over again.
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Thanks ! Indeed 3d fractals looks quite surrealistic, specially when parameters are changing during the animation course.

    Amazing!

You can make your own pretty easily with Mandelbulb 3d, the interface design is pretty intuitive and you can come up with incredible images in a few hours of training. Please visit fractalforums.com for more infos about this fascinating free software.

Hypnotic. Would love to see a "making of" :)
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Thanks ! A making of would be pretty boring, 99,9% of the work is rendering time^^
  • Anders Hattne 1 year ago
Is that mandelbulber? Any idea of how long the rendertime was? I've looked at it but gave up after a few quick tests...
  • Riot Unit 1 year ago
Exactly. How long does it take render up a piece like this?

Really enjoyed the video. At first, the mind has a hard time interpreting this different type of architecture. Very mesmerizing!
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
You're right, all those weird shapes can induce confusion. Specially when parameters like fractal scale is changing rapidly. thanks for watching !

wow.. when the camera zooms out, it'll look like its something small.. but when it zooms back in, wow, it really has a very huge of details that it will look like its really really big.. and that is such a nice and well done work..
    three thumbs up.. :)

    wat program do u use?

    im guessing Mandelbulb3D
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Yes it is. I didn't write it in the comments, I'll have to edit this soon. Mandelbulb 3d is such an awesome - free - program it deserves a lot of publicity :)
  •
  • lazniak.com plus 1 year ago
it is a 3D fractal? or What? :) how did you made that? Very very NICE :)
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Yes this is a 3d fractal (a mandelbox formula). I used Mandelbulb 3d to render this animation. Feel free to visit fractalforums.com for more infos about this free program.

    umm,
    some mirror duplication is there
    weird random patterns
    Professional graphics and environment
    Time shifting cam movement

I wished it was something more meaningful metaphoric
however It carried nice message about our world:-
my home is part of the strt, strt part of the city, city from country, country of land, land of earth, earth of milky solar system stars space galaxies... and so on

I cant then stop saying wow to whatever surrounds you
    and Oppps to yourself

Thanks for the great show and the hard effort

maybe you answered this but....is this ran on a mandelbrot set?....looks almost mandlebrot.. very nice!! :)
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
This formula is a Mandelbox. I'm not a math guy so I only understand the idea but I can't comment on the formula itself. You can find more infos about this new formula here : sites.google.com/site/mandelbox/what-is-a-mandelbox

I have never seen anything like this before in my life. Absolutely fantastic.
Amazing how you're tricked into thinking something is big and a couple of moments later you saw the same place disappear because of how tiny it was compared to everything else.
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Dezooming is nice because you can see where you're coming from, it accentuates the impression of infinite complexity.
  •
  • Wow! Can you render this in fulldome (4K by 4K) for the Digital Planetarium market at a nominal fee? Please do get in touch!
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Hi Dionysios. Actually i could render this in 4k *4k, it would be a very slow render though. I'll send you a private in a few minutes ;)

    Mandelbulber?
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Mandelbulb 3d. Sadly it seems Mandelbulber requires a more powerful computer than Mandelbulb 3d. My modest dual core processor isn't fast enough :(

What is the music in this video? similar to the Biosphere
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
The music is my ambient/drone/experimental project called "Musicians With guns". For this particular track I exclusively used PPG Waves sound ; this old synthesizer had a distinct digital/retro 80's feel. It can be mesmerizing and gritty at the same time.

Fractals are just crazy, aren't they! Very nice work.
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
You're totally right. I'm always amazed to fractal's infinite complexity and variety of shapes. Adding a third dimension is just insane :D
  •
  • Rainer Skommodau 1 year ago
WOW, I think on my first fractals I made 1985 with a Commodore C64 and 12h time to calculate with 5 colours...
    ....thank you for this video.
  • ricardo montalban 1 year ago
Wow I didn't know about fractal programs on C64. For this animation the frame render time is about 2 to 4 minutes for a 1280*720 image on a dual core PC. Hopefully there is an animation preview built in Mandelbulb 3d :D
