The Long Island Project is a design and planning strategy, not a prototype.
The concept is to create dense pockets in and around Long Island's suburban commuter rail stations. The project proposes three distinct methods of architectural interventions at the Long Island Rail Road’s significant stations. The first restructures parking lots to create highly evolved, sustainable and modern communities. Secondly, the downtown areas are in-filled with commercial and residential programs. Finally, new sustainable single family housing is introduced within walking distance to the train. With the integration of these three strategies, the surrounding communities will become destinations themselves rather than simply existing as a stop on someone’s daily commute.
