Great quality work Andy, some nice compositions. You can't help but love the 5d. I think like most video makers we all need to start to explore audio a lot more, it is 50% of the piece after all. I think with a few interviews and comments about progress and race updates you would have the makings of a great piece of work. Well done fella
  • Thanks for your comment Darren, yes I heard a similar response from someone else! Next time I'll plan on getting interviews with members of the team and snippets of audio here and there, perhaps some of the commentator and generally try and improve the narrative somewhat.
    Thanks Again!

Nice mood piece, nice use of music, lovely 5D look.

But the DLSR audio achilles heel.

Some onboard cams looking at the driver at work, and obviously looking forward out of the car, would help for a contrast, & for a 'narrative', HD - cheap, simple, and very effective 720P 60fps, and I echo Darren's thoughts, audio, it's really not about the cars, which are undoubtedly pretty, endurance racing is really about the people, and the (their) emotion, thats where the immersion comes from, the viewers empathy with them. Interviews, or some of the pit/car comms, and would add spice.

I was 2 doors down working as MJC's "lucky" camera crew, and while the camerawork was handheld, & DVCam (for TV). (Healthy 13mins? crikey) I currently have a leviathan 50min fly on the wall doc coming (probably end in February), of MJC's rollercoaster outright win. It won't have your cinematic look & production values, but it'll certainly demonstrate what I'm talking about, the possibilities...

Full HD next year for me, & I must get me one of those glidetracks!

    Nonetheless top work though!
  • I know, I recorded all audio with a Rode Videomic, but my problem was for this video I couldn't get interviews with the team or get a camera inside the car.

The aim next time is to set up a couple of in-car cameras and get comments and interviews from the team throughout the race.

Let me know when your doc is out, I'd love to see it!

Yeh glidetrack was well worth it, for those quick shots it just adds another dimension!

Thanks for your comments and advice!

Well here you are then the MJC version of the 24hr

The contrast between the 2 ways of doing it could not be more different.

Such a good video man, Sorry its taken me this long to comment. American dollar just adds to the feel of the whole event. Love the shot of them all looking dead tired. It's truly a beautiful camera! Would be interesting to play with sound and maybe a animated title sequence next time? Get Ellie on the case?
