M-1 Leaves the Turntable at the East Broad Top
1 year ago
M-1 is a narrow gauge, gas electric "doodlebug" built from a Brill design that was downsized by the East Broad Top. It was used to carry mail, people and so on when needs were found to run more economical trips than possible with a steam engine. It is possibly the last original narrow gauge gas electric in the country, and possibly the world.

Capuccino Jones 1 year agoRode the M-1 at the 2006 Spectacular...quite a rocky ride! It was truly special though. Very unique motor sound. The noise in the engine compartment must be deafening for the operator. -

1 year ago That is VERY true. I rode it one year when the wall between the engine and the passenger/baggage compartment was missing. VERY VERY loud.. That's why Phil is deaf. He drove it for something like 40 years... -

1 year ago The ride was a bit less rocky this year.. The Railroad replaced 1000 ties, and did a fair bit of tamping, which made the ride a lot smoother... THey need to do another 5,000 ties to get it *really* smooth..
