We created a unique physical 3D video-mapping experience by turing a white living room into a spacious 360° projection area.

This technique allowed us to take control of all colors, patterns and textures of the furniture, wallpapers and carpet. All done with 2 projectors.

Took me awhile to learn FTR is actually just one guy, a DJ named Chris Alfaro. I would love to see him live, but he rarely comes to the East Coast. Come on Chris, big fans out here!

Wow that was incredible! Wish I had a white couch to donate to you as the fabric was the only part of the illusion that stood out! So neat! ;)

very nice and clean...any clue about the tools you used for the mapping? I assume everything was mostly locked down and you sort of pushed things about by hand in AE or something more expandable/live like vdmx..but im curious if you had any custom tools

One of the last nails being driven into the theatrical scene painter's coffin.

But very pretty and impressive, nevertheless.

haha, a bit dramatic... but thanx i guess!
  • christopher stack 1 year ago
definitely a bit dramatic - you can't use this on stage or on a movie set because you'd see the projection on the actors as they walked through it. it's seriously cool tho.

Mike Naimark did an analog variant of this at MIT's Architecture Machine Group in 1980 - see naimark.net/writing/projection.html

Beautiful but it's going to have to capture images of the people and project those back onto them. At least you could post-process clothes on so I wouldn't have to wear any.

i really wanna hav a room that can changes like this in real life :)
  •
  • nikescar 1 year ago
You should add Kinect to this to blank out the projection of where people are in the room. That way people could inhabit the scene.

This takes "painting with light" to a whole new level & turns room decor into performance art. I'm stunned by how clever and well executed this is. Thanks for posting this.
