Model S, engineered from the ground up as an EV, is meticulously designed for superior aerodynamics, stability and handling, crash safety, performance and range. Before Model S enters production it will have been thoroughly tested using both computer simulations and test vehicles. Tesla will complete two vehicle testing phases, Alpha and Beta. The Alpha phase began in 2010. Here is one Alpha driving in California.

    When most other companies still invest billions of $ in polluting gasoline powered R&D, a small company like Tesla is to be commended for their effort in advancing pure electric vehicles. No compromises like hybrids. On top of that they look gorgeous, they look more like a Maserati than a Prius.

    I love the fact that the car is there and will certainly consider buying one.
    The design is slightly disappointing to me. I understand that Tesla can not afford to have an extreme design, on the other hand this one looks a bit too much like a mundane Ford Mondeo.

    This car is just what the driving public needs...all electric, but with real beauty and a decent driving range. I pray I will be able have one.
    It looks as good as any Mercedes or Lexus but the best part is that its not I/C! Goodbye Saudi's...I'll bet the sheiks will buy the Tesla S for themselves.

    I think this is by far the greatest looking electric vehicle designed to date. The only drawback is the 300 mile charge. I will be settling with gas vehicles since all of the electrics are far out of my price range for at least another 10 years. I hate to admit that, but I am not going to lie. I due commend Tesla on their great work though. Beautiful Car!

    They gotta start somewhere though, right? As people pick up these vehicles, they'll come down in price while the batteries are improved, making them (batteries) smaller, with longer range and shorter recharge times. I will not buy a hybrid because so far all the ones I've seen store the batteries behind the back seats, eliminating the possibility for fold-down seats (which I need more than once in a while). I also do a lot of country-driving, so the 300-mile range is too short for me. So I too will wait 10 years and see where EV's are at. In the meantime, I encourage city-only drivers with no need for fold-down seats to grab these cars and help Tesla improve them for the rest of us! :D
