This animation was shown in public for the first time at Flash on the Beach. Although I was only there for the first day, FOTB again set the highest standard of excellence when it comes to creative conferences and I sincerely appreciate all of the support from John and everyone at FOTB. I also appreciate all of the people that showed up for my show-n-tell session – I hope it was relevant to their interests.

Visuals: Dr. Woohoo!
Music: Radiohead, Nude.

I wish I'd have seen your talk. I would not have any idea bout where to start if I had to use the software you did it with. I'd propably rather start from scratch :P

Hopefully I'll make it to Germany sometime and do a show-n-tell there. I originally jumped into Maya for the first time a few months ago because I wasn't able to control gradients via code the way I wanted to in Illustrator (AI). After that, I was populating predefined rectangular areas – à la Josh Davis' method – except with an AIR app that I created to control AI and I found that I needed to populate more organic shaped surfaces. Nurbs, deformations, vertices and dynamics proved to compliment what I saw in my mind really well. It's an interesting relationship – sometimes I know exactly where I want to go and sometimes I just listen to the software and it tells me where to go. hahaa.
