I recently had a couple days in Tokyo and spent most of it eating, as you might have guessed. After enjoying one of the best bowls of ramen in my life, I wonder right next door to.. eat again! I stumble into a bright and sterile looking mom-and-pop self-serve sushi spot. It’s the type of restaurant where you pull whatever you want right off the conveyor belt and eat. This proves dangerous for me, clearly from a financial standpoint, but also a diplomatic one.
So I almost get kicked out, but not for what you’re thinking. I get this bright idea to put my camera on the belt to capture the reactions of the my fellow patrons being inappropriately filmed. I’m really fascinated with the end result, though the staff clearly is not. I’m sternly chastised, making this the only time during my entire visit that I observe anyone (Japanese) act even slightly less than polite. The end result is what I feel to be a video even more interesting than the meal itself.
