This is an excerpt from ReConstitution 2008, a performance series by Sosolimited. All three presidential debates were remixed live, as they happened, for theatre audiences. The first debate remix took place at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. This is footage from a DV cam in the back row, that is why you can hear a crowd.

In this segment, faces are pixelated out and voices are pitch shifted to obscure their identity. A live transcript of the spoken words is selectively blacked out to simulate redacted government documents.

Visual and audio cues that differentiate the candidates are removed so that the spectator must rely on more on word choice and cadence to inform their experience. But to further complicate matters, most of the important buzzwords and talking points of the recorded speech have been deleted.
