Twixtor GH13 quick test
A quick test on old footage (taken September 2010) to evaluate the 'basic' Twixtor for Final Cut Express. Shot at 720p 50 frames per second on hacked GH1 converted to 25fps in Cinema Tools to double length and then Twixtored in FCE, setting: 20%, giving a final speed of 1/10th actual.
Would have been crisper with a different scene shot at a higher shutter speed.

If so when you import this into Final Cut Express it drops every other frame to make it 30/25 frames. Even if you afterwards select to half the speed from within FCE it doesn't reimport from the original it just makes up the in between frames and it appears stuttery. If this is then twixtored you get weird halts in the frames. I ended up buying an old 'new' copy of apple cinema tools (ebay) to convert properly the 60/50 fps into 30/25 fps (doubling the scene length) before twixtoring (note: cinema tools was not intel compatible I'm running that on an old Mac). Unfortunately FCE is not FCP and corners have been cut.
Don't know if all that was any use?
Alex
Thanks
I'm afraid not I'm only just starting in this digital video stuff myself. Just tried to half the speed in Quicktime using the A/V control and then export, that does exactly the same and drops every other frame. If anyone else out there has a work around I would like to hear it also.
Sorry can't be more help, Alex.
I found a a free download called jes deinterlacer. Using it I was able to achieve really nice slow motion in conjunction with twixtor express. Thanks for you comments too.
Well done this is actually as good as or better than Cinema tools, brilliant I love it. (Sound goes a bit odd though..)
Thanks to you!
You really do need a high shutter speed to give Twixtor the best information to work with. Also you need a background that's not too busy otherwise twixtor tries to incorporate some background elements into the foreground subject giving a wobble edge effect. Jes Interlacer is in fact a lot slower than Cinema tools (I think Cinema tools just alters the replay fps header in the file so it takes seconds), whereas Interlacer actually reprocesses the file. The settings in deinterlacer are: In input make sure progressive in is checked. In project select custom 720 1280 30 fps movie speed 0.5. In output select progressive out direct compressor apple intermediate codec. I have found this to give the smoothest result.
