Music works well with the shots, feels like something cool is happening. Great Work. Cheers Callum
  • Thanks Callum. I wish it was smoother and better framed, but its hard to drive and worry about how the cam is looking, I'll definitely have to do a longer run now that I have some better equipment to set the Camera up in the Car

mind if I ask what settings you used on your hv20 and what you did in post?

I plan on shooting some in car action v soon. Will do most with my still and CHDK but I wouldnt mind doing some like this also. Its more fluid then the still.
  • well if your still can shoot 6fps a second then your well on your way. I shot this using at 1/12 shutter at 25f, post I simply added a film like gamma curve and sped it up 2000 times.

I think with stills you'd get better image though.

Thanks for getting back to me

my still camera is lucky to shoot 1 frame/2s. footage will look more like this vimeo.com/2005107

I am still very new to all this, i understand what your saying and what you have done but am still struggle to understand exactly how those setting effect the footage.

I hear mounting the hv20/30 in a car is a bit of a pain?
  • 1/12th shutter helps to get the camera to capture more light because its capturing a frame at 1/12 of a second meaning the shutter stays open longer, this is only useful for time lapse shooting (unless you like the stuttery look video) and also setting the camera to 25f again gives it that extra fraction of light - means its trying to shoot 25 frames a second, when shooting 50i means its actually trying to shoot 50fps a second so less time for light for each frame. The main reason this is done so the image is exposed better so you get more colour detail, definition and less grain.

As far as mounting, any cam can be tricky (the bigger the harder it gets), I had jammed the tripod nice and tight between the front seat and the foot rest area, You can also get the big suction cap type mounts that go onto the window, or go all the way and get an external mount.
