See all Show me
Video-based blogging was starting to get popular among a fringe group of innovative weirdos towards the end of 2004. Some of them organized "Vloggercon", where around a hundred of us gathered at NYU to meet eachother and present what we'd be working on.

Vimeo was about a month old at this point, and they let me demo it. It was different back then, enjoy.

Here's the first Vimeo on archive.org:

What happened to this Make a Movie thing? It seems freaking sweet.

It worked with Quicktime only. Quicktime only worked when the site was very small; if you want more people to be able to use the site, you have to use Flash.

We'd like to bring it back in the future.

I would love this feature. I didn't read the headline and thought that this is your glorious new idea you're gonna ship the next few days.

You should definately bring this back!

The make a movie thing is an awesome idea! I hope it works out one day, but if not I don't think it's that big of a deal... people are so creative here and they obviously don't mind editing their own clips!

It's probably much easier to due with Flash anyway.

haha I completely forgot about the short movie thing where it took short clips of everyone's footage and put it all together.

This is a great 'history of'.

Gives us new Vimizens a picture of where this came from.

    Thanks for sharing

Did you have to email Jakob for an account?

This reminds me of the famous 1968 Xerox PARC demonstration of the first computer mouse.

That was so much fun. We were all pretty excited about vimeo. This clip doesn't show it but there was a lot of applause at the end.

This is so cool to see, thanks for sharing with us Jakob! You had an idea and you made it happen. I started shooting video clips about 6 years ago but they just sat on my hard drive unwatched for years. Now they don't have to! Yay Vimeo! :) I always wondered if it was Vimeo, like video with a "me". I thought that was clever. But I never noticed it was an anagram for "movie". Genius!
