The Brisbane river was due to hit its peak this day and accompanied by photographer Sue Black we went up quite early. We didn't have much trouble parking close to Southbank train station where we started our walk.
The main street through Southbank, which is normally a very busy area, was completely devoid of people even though the water was only at the edge of the nearby Streets Beach.
We then circled around and found ourselves outside the Convention Center which was completely surrounded with water. Police were at nearly every street and were parked where the murky water started.
Kangaroo Point was mobbed with onlookers as they had a perfect glimpse of the swollen river and the city. All the TV news stations were set up there too.
After visiting a friend at Salisbury we drove a short ways to see what was effected in the area and saw the most compelling visuals on the day. Businesses and houses were submerged and the locals were getting around in canoes, jet ski's and boats. QLD Premier Anna Bligh was also there to check in on the damage.
Everything was shot with a Canon 5d Mark II, handheld, using two lenses:
24-105 f4
70-200 f2.8
I used a simple Azden shotgun microphone for sound.
