Shot over the 2011 New Year weekend when a winter storm arrived in Yosemite. Overcast skies the first day, followed by heavy snow on the second day, partly cloudy the third day and sunny the fourth day. You'll see a mixture of shots from the different weather conditions. Enjoy!

Chilling video Henry! I'm envious. I went looking for similar weather at Grand Canyon Jan 7-9, but snow was melting and barely a cloud.

Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your creations.

Thanks Dan! This was a trip I've been planning for a while. Was waiting for a good solid winter storm and when I saw the weather for the new years weekend, I packed my bags and jumped in the car. Couldn't asked for anything more, it was perfect for the type of shoot I wanted. Better luck next time in Grand Canyon. :)

Look for the guy with the dolly on a tripod. I'll be there in February for horsetail falls :) Hopefully mid month for possible moonbow but will see about weather!
  • ...and I'll be the other guy with a dolly between 2 tripods!

Stunning - especially the ghostly cloud swirls. Nice use of Mansell. What equipment were you using?
  • Henry Jun Wah Lee plus 1 year ago
Thanks! Canon 5D Mk II, 24-70 L, 16-35 L, Kessler Pocket Dolly with motor.

Thanks for the info - hoping to use a 7d soon - similar to the 5d?
  • Henry Jun Wah Lee plus 1 year ago
I love the full frame sensor on the 5D2 for image quality, low light and shallow depth of field. That being said, the 7D is an awesome camera. I actually shot some footage on a Canon T2i using 60 fps thinking of doing some super slow motion snow effect but I never could fit it into the final video.

  • Hi Henry.

I just finished booking a trip to Yosemite for the week prior to Memorial Day.

While I was printing my email confirmation, I noticed that you had shared this wonderful vid with me.

    Synchronicity!

Thanks again for another beautiful Yosemite vid.

Good to see a scenic video that isn't just all timelapse, a lot of thought and skill went into this! Great stuff!

My only point of criticism is, I feel the grading could be toned down a little.
  • Henry Jun Wah Lee plus 1 year ago
Thanks for commenting Andrew. And thank you for your constructive criticism. I really appreciate it. You're right, a few of the scenes could use some toning down on grading. I rushed the release a bit. I'm working on some changes, including removing the dust and reducing the compression banding. My computer's rendering now but it's awful slow! Cheers, Henry

amazing job, well done, did u try get any night timelapse shots? I can imagine it being amazing with moon stars and snowy peaks...
  • Henry Jun Wah Lee plus 1 year ago
Thanks Jake. No night timelapse shots this time. Cloudy skies/snow the first two nights. And after shooting sunrise to sunset, I was too tired/lazy to head out into the cold!
