Bastet (2008)

Site-specific video installation created in Alexandria, Egypt, during Dwayer International Female Artists Workshop. A beautifully laid table was left in the street for stray cats to enjoy – an offering to the once sacred animal. On a metaphorical level the piece can also be read as a comment on the human world: the rich/poor divide, greed and consumerism.

Bastet was a cat-headed solar goddess and protector of women in ancient Egypt.
