Looks like he used Twixtor. A Plugin for After Effects. It can achieve very smooth slow motion whilst filming at a standard frame rate. Search it!

Even though Nightsurf is a flawed work--a little too embellished, a little too maudlin--it is also indicative of what Iker Elorrieta can and will do, and that he is someone, thanks to his natural talent, who will be able to mature and grow for years to come.

Great stuff, Iker. Really enjoyed this. I've gotta ask, though, how the hell did you light all of this?! Looking to do something similar for a motocross project, but don't know where to start looking for some affordable, but powerful lights to rent.
  • Iker Elorrieta plus 8 months ago
    Hi Kyle!
Hmi 12kw 6+6kw but depends on the space you want light may work better Balloon lights
    good luck! cheers
  • You might also consider doing a day-for-night VFX pass. Shoot it during the day, make it look like it was shot at night in post. Check out this tutorial from VideoCopilot: videocopilot.net/tutorials/day_to_night_conversion/
