By French artist Jocelyn Cottencin. Commissioned in 2008 in collaboration with Tramway, Glasgow.
Filmed entirely in North Uist, Outer Hebrides, north west of Scotland, Real Escape is an epic, the wandering of a 'polar bear' in an unsuitable environment without ice.
This slow-moving film follows the 'bear's' hesitant movements through the desolate moorland and explores issues around dislocation, wilderness, environment & climate change.
Coincidentally there was a precedent to this in Uist when in 1980 a trained grizzly bear Hercules escaped and was on the loose for three weeks while shooting a Kleenex commercial on the island.
