In this tutorial you'll learn how to create secondary motion without any simulations like softbody for your characters clothing, accessories, even hair! This method can also be applied to environmental animation.

Working in the games industry currently, where simulation needs to be kept to a minimum, I've found this method a huge time saver.

Also for pre-rendered work it has a lot of uses. In Elephants Dream, Proog's jacket had an initial softbody simulation applied, and then a manual override (about 12 points of control total) was used to tweak any intersections and problems the simulation had. We ended up replacing about 70% of the simulation with this method!

Hope it is useful, and please Email me with feedback through lee[at]leewj.com , I'm really wanting to provide as much value as possible in these tutorials.

Cheers!

great tut Lee. I'd be interested in seeing this example applied to a mesh and used in the game engine
