The source of this footage, John McClure, was a member of the San Diego Jr. Chamber of Commerce and sports car fan and driver. His position with the Chamber put him in a position to combine his passions as part of the team that developed the Torrey Pines Race Course. Thankfully, John also carried a camera around with him for races up and down the West Coast
This footage is from the final race at Torrey Pines, run January 14–15, 1956.
Among the marvelous shots here is some footage of Phil Hill prepping his Ferrari 500 Mondial; Jack McAfee strapping on his helmet in his #88 Porsche 550 Spyder; The running LeMans-style start of the 6 Hours Race; and that's just in the first few minutes.
Perhaps the most interesting bit here is Stirling Moss enjoying the race from the sidelines complete with Mickey Mouse ears — having visited Disneyland that morning with members of the California Sports Car Club and the Womens' Sports Car Club (naturally). Fun!
