IT SECURITY FOR CITIZENS

The research project IT Security for Citizens (ITSCI) conducted at the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University aims at making IT security more user-friendly, more mobile – and more safe.

To that end ITSCI has developed a prototype consisting of a mobile phone communicating with a computer via Bluetooth.

If you want to use your digital signature or make a transaction online or in the physical world, one part of the confidential information is available on the mobile phone while the other part is stored on a central server.

Therefore all data will not be lost should the phone get stolen or the server hacked.

You can, unlike existing digital signatures, take the mobile phone with you and use it as a key that goes in various keyholes in the form of computers or credit card readers, which are in contact with the central server.

IT-SECURITY FOR CITIZENS

Forskningsprojektet IT-Security for Citizens (ITSCI) ved Datalogisk Institut på Aarhus Universitet vil gøre it-sikkerhed mere brugervenlig, mere mobil – og mere sikker.

Til det formål har ITSCI udviklet en prototype, der består af en mobiltelefon, som via Bluetooth-teknologi kommunikerer med en computer.

Hvis man vil sætte sin digitale signatur eller lave en transaktion på nettet eller i den fysiske verden, vil den ene del af de fortrolige oplysninger ligge på mobiltelefonen og den anden på en central server. Alle data vil derfor ikke gå tabt, hvis telefonen bliver stjålet eller serveren hacket.

Mobiltelefonen virker som en nøgle, som man modsat de eksisterende digitale signaturer kan tage med sig og sætte i forskellige nøglehuller i form af computere eller butikkers betalingsapparater, som er i kontakt med den centrale server.
