On Friday 21ST and Saturday 22ND of January 2011, a squad of ten girls and ten boys from the International School of Samui competed in a ‘Chairball Tournament’ organised by the Tessaban, Koh Samui.
The first game may have started off a little shaky, but by the end of the tournament the children had turned into strong competitors. Yeon Woo (Year 4) was constantly looking to intercept the ball, James (Year 5) was marking and blocking, Lyubava (Year 4) was jumping and defending for the girls and Thomas (Year 4) was sprinting and leaping to pass and receive the ball. All, children worked extremely well together as a team, and they also got to meet many children from other schools.
Yeon Woo Seo commented that he thought the tournament was ‘a lot of fun’ and that he is ready to do another one as soon as possible! Se Ryeong Kim commented, ‘when I got to mark number eight, it was a lot of fun because we got to push each other when fighting for the ball.’
Although the children did not come away with any trophies, they can be proud of their effort and attitude to sport. Mr. Cook and I are certainly proud of our teams. We look forward to seeing them continue to improve through further events.
Well played ISS!
