Jazz vocalist Sachal Vasandani is one of the next generation of singers that meshes both the traditional standards while staying current with creating new and innovative music. Vasandani’s Mack Avenue Records releases “We Move” and “Eyes Wide Open” takes listeners on a musical journey that leaves listeners both entertained and relaxed. He’s also a songwriter that’s getting more confident as he continues to record.

The Chicago, Illinois native is one of a handful of jazz vocalists that are merging the vocalese and modern jazz style while staying current with the latest musical styles. Sachal is a graduate of The University of Michigan and the 1999 Downbeat Magazine Collegiate Jazz Vocalist of the Year. Upon graduation Sachal worked as an investment banker on Wall Street while pursuing music at night. After years of working the club scene and gaining the buzz of major record labels, his work paid off and he released his debut disc “Eyes Wide Open.”

Vasandani’s parents were instrumental in introducing him to music ranging from western and Indian classical to the music of today. He describes his parents as true jazz buffs.

He eventually gave up the rigors of Wall Street to devote himself to music full time. Playing gigs at such venues as Cleopatra's Needle and the Zinc Bar. His major break came when he performed at the Monk Competition. Also, he was asked to perform in 2005 by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in 2005.
