we've paddled those boards in Sweden this winter and they works perfect in icy waters! With the soft top construction you dont have to be as careful with the sharp ice flakes as you need to be with the AST och epoxy/wood-construction. The rails of the board are protected with a slightly more durable and harder surface that's strong enough to hit in ice flakes. The soft fins are a bit stiffer in winter though, maybe not too much of a mystery ;-)
