It has been four months since the Chinese communist supporters started violently attacking Falun Gong practitioners in New York's Flushing area. Our team went to Flushing to get an update about the situation.
STORY:
The busy streets of Flushing are masking a painful conflict, deep within the Chinese community.
It has been nine years since the Chinese Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in China. And four months ago, the conflict spilled over onto the streets of Flushing in New York.
Steven Chen works at the Quit the CCP Service Centre in Flushing. And he has been listening to the concerns of local Chinese.
[Steven Chen, Quit the CCP Service Centre]:
"I feel a little scared. Why are there so many people surrounding Falun Gong practitioner, yell at them, slander and assault them.”
Angela Li works for the Epoch Times, one of the only independent Chinese newspapers in the world.
[Angela Li, Epoch Times Staff]:
"The news only tells people what is happening in China, and what is happening about the Falun Gong practitioner in China. So the newspaper tells people the truth.”
Falun Gong practitioners involved in distributing the newspaper have been surrounded and attacked by large mobs in Flushing.
[Angela Li, Epoch Times Staff]:
"One of them, you know, they pushed me and tell me, ‘why are you do that' ‘you don't love China'. I tell them, ‘no, I love China, but I don't love Chinese Communist Party'”
Falun Gong practitioner Lan Bao Yu was imprisoned for 28 days in China.
[Lan Bao Yu, Falun Gong Practitioner]:
"Falun Gong practitioners are good people. The CCP's persecution of Falun Gong is not right. It's a crime. They have taken us good people and locked us up in prisons, and harvest organs from live people - they are committing crimes.”
More than 43 million Chinese have withdrawn their membership of the Chinese Communist Party since November 2004, and the number continues to grow every day.
