CHAN:
As the melamine and tainted crisis continues, consumer confidence has been hit hard in China. Chinese aren't just worried about tainted milk products anymore... they're wondering if anything else is unsafe to eat or drink. Here's what people in the Mainland are saying.
[Mr. Long, Guangdong Province]:
"People who own businesses don't care about their customers' safety. They have completely lost faith in this land. This is only a small portion of what I have seen. The Chinese government is covering up the truth as usual. Most of the Chinese are aware of the situation, many have woken up and now understand that the system is corrupt and requires a change.”
[Chinese Citizen]:
"My brother is in America. He's told me that human rights are very important over there. Victims of contaminated food are able to receive huge financial settlements. I think China does not value human rights. I hardly have any faith in the government because they are not strict on quality assurance.”
[Mr. Mo, Hunan Province]:
"99 percent of food is not safe. You don't even know what chemicals are added into the flour and noodles. The government ignores this issue completely. But that is all people can afford, even though they know they are not safe."
