Very cool. Love the colour grading - and the voiceovers really add to it. Cool song choice too.

The shot on them kissing at about 30sec and the walking/holding hands shots after it - gorgeous.
  • Thanks Matt . With the voice over that we had plenty for the love story and thought why not put some of it into this one and hence the super 8 bit was born :)

    Great STD, so sunny!
Hard to believe you're going to hot summer when cold rain out the window.. :)
  • Thanks Serge. Yeah its about time for summer, sick of the cold although not compareable to russias freezing temps. :)

what image preset were you using on the A1? Love the video?
  • I have customised settings, but I would say its a mix between Panalook 2 and Vision 2 preset.

This is amazing work, more couples in love need to know about your projects! Love the camera movement, did you use some sort of steadicam or flycam?
  • Thanks Tommie, I do want to get the word out there that video for couples isn't just a simple doco now days it can be a lot more.

I have a steadicam merlin, used it with hv30 which was a little light so even tiny amount of wind put it off course. Works better with the A1 but I had the adapter with that.

    What DOF adapter is it?
  • Its the RNG35 (RNG35.com) quiet a bit cheaper then the Letus or Brevis and produces as good results.

Thanks Peter for the quick reply - I hadn't heard of that one.
Was considering buying a DOF adapter for my HV20 but as you know our dollar has crashed. (Should have done so in July when it was US98c)

Did you buy this in OZ or mail order from OS?

Seems like you are pretty happy with it and the vid looks terrific.

BTW next year you'll have to go in the Shootout, it's gruelling but it's sort of fun!
  • Yeah the $ crash is very disappointing, I was going to buy the Flip from Brevis but might hold of for a bit. :(

I ordered from US. Nobody in OZ is doing it so would be good to maybe looking at designing an Oz version.

I need to do some more creative projects, so hopefully I can make it next year to the shootout.

I was hoping you'd got it in OZ and somehow there was old stock at reasonable prices. Will have to see if our dollar can rise back up a bit. Seems wierd it could drop over 30% so quickly.

Had a look at some of your other stuff and it looks impressive....It would be great if I could shoot at the high quality you produce.

BTW this is our Geelong Shootout entry (slightly edited)...enjoy.

What a beautiful couple and fantastic video. Very inspiring all around... wonderful creativity. O yes - and how is the 'home movie' look created in the beginning? or is that intensive work that would be too involved to explain??
  • Thanks David. The look for the old home movie does involve about 5 layers so yeah its a little complex to explain the process. I know there are plugins that do it but so far what I've seen it generally makes it look like a filter on top, so I tried to achieve the look as much as I could, I am fairly satisfied, of course nothing beats shooting on a real super 8 :)

    Fantastic!
  • Thank B Bro's :)
  •
  • Love the super8 look in the beginning and the voice over. Great idea.
  • Thanks Patrick, just seemed right to use the voice over to characterise the super 8 bit.

Peter, great video man! It's inspiring (I'm a beginner) You're using the Canon A1, correct? Did you always use the 35mm adapter while shooting? Or only on certain shots? Since i think it's gonna be very hard to change focus manually while moving (with stabilizer + 35mm adapter).
  • I used 2 cams one with the adapter the other with the Merlin so yeah it would be impossible to focus if I had the adapter on the Merlin, on a bigger Steadicam it could be done but even then I'd have the aperture up so I can focus a wider area.

the colours in this short are fantastic, yeah. brilliant shoot.
  •
  • Frankly, the color grading is too warm and flat to me... but I love the rest. It really has a nice pace, the camerawork is top-notch, and I like the speed-ramp dolly-out shot when they're on the beach. Vignetting is artful. I love it!

Wow!! loved the shot where they kiss in slow motion with the arty lens flare! Amazing really. How did you get the super8 look in the beginning?

    Greetings from Dubai :-)
  • thanks mate, I used a few layers to get that effect, mainly Boris CC stuff.
