Rebecca is surprised to find Mark, Iris, Jamal, and Kezia in the classroom. The last three would rather be outdoors, but they’ve been unable to get Mark to go with them. He won’t go because he’s morbidly worried that an airplane will crash into the school yard, just as one did at another school. Rebecca explains that we worry “because we know that bad things do occasionally happen, and we don’t want them to happen to us or someone we love.” The group develops strategies for using worry in a positive way. They discuss how to deal with unrealistic fears. Kezia says, “Sometimes I let myself worry about unrealistic things so I don’t have to think about my real worries.” Mark then recognizes that what has really been worrying him is the bullying treatment he’s been receiving from two older boys who have been robbing him.
