Documentary | 51 min | Serbia, 2008
It is the fourth summer in a row that Josef Arone from San Francisco comes to Serbia. He makes street-performances as Joe Mama the clown and from July till September, over the countryside and around the capital, from the trumpet festival to the war zone, he is in the mission of spreading joy.
Joe parties wherever he can, but his idea of joy is more profound. He wants to spread it, especially in the areas where people forgot it. The "Bread and Cheese Circus" that he founded here with his friends, goes to Kosovo to make performances for the refugee children that live there. Enter the world where a stranger is just a friend that you have not met yet!
"Joe Goes To Serbia" (original title "Moj drug Srbija") is a mid-lenght documentary produced by Sonja Blagojevic (the author) and the production house "CVK KVADRAT" from Belgrade in more or less no-budget conditions. It was shot on miniDV mostly during the summer of 2006, all over Serbia.
The World Premiere took place on March 2008, on the 55th Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival, where the film won two awards: GOLDEN MEDAL OF BELGRADE for the best documentary film in the National Competition and The Award of the Serbian branch of FIPRESCI - for the most engaged film shown in the official program of the Festival.
The film was shown on 20 festivals all over the world.
