The Euro's 2008
Just a few points about making this vid its important, call it the directors commentary.
When making a vid you should think carfully about your choose of music, have a theme or story and not distract the viewer from the content with the over use of fades transitions and effects.
The Theme/Story
The pack, moving as one, the scrum of the race, the lack of space. This is how the vid first presents itself. Then we focus in on one kiters struggle, one kiters pain and his eventual wipe out and how this fitted into the pack as we watch him collect his gear as the last buggy passes him by.
Once this story has played out the vid ends with a gallery of behind the scenes people who make an event like this work, finally focusing on the Kite an inanimate object on the ground in its bag but powerfull yet gracefull in the air and the ultimate focus for our sport.
The vid ends with that crash in slow mo and out takes of Stu packing up his gear. Nice one stu. Always good to end on a funny.
The Music
This had to fulfill two roles. Speed and the thick of the pack contrasted to the grace and power of the kites. While the buggies slide and pitch the kite holds steady almost detached from the chaos that is beneath it.
The music is also only about 4.5 min long this is enough time to tell your story without boring your audience. Also look out for the timings so many vids just have music slapped on with little thought. The word 'ass' and 'behind' both enhance the story being told.
Transitions, fades and effects.
If you have to use a lot of these you have failed, the effect should be in the video content you took not what your video editor can do. Limit yourself to a max of three simple transitions, if not less. keep the music in time with events in the vid look for opportunities to support and enhance your theme or story.
And Finally
Thanks to all that made the Euro's happen, Hope the guy who broke his shoulder recovers quickly, I know how it feels mate, mine still stings a bit.
