Quit your day job, dude! (if you have one). This is fine, fine work! I strongly suggest that you make a longer version for 2009 and get it to AMPAS. I could easily see it being nominated for a short or documentary Oscar. Let me know if you need any help with that. (kdeloria(at)gmail(dot)com

Ken. I really like your comment. Jason. again great work. I think Arin Crumley was in touch with you recently. him and I did the crazy huge collaborative documentary out at BM in 2008.

Wow that was great. One of the best BM movies I have ever seen. Great pacing, great changes, great sound tracks and such a good range of types of scenes and interactions....awesome.
I signed up to Vimeo just to comment on this.

You almost made me cry... In a good way.
It was touching. I swore every year that that was my last time of suffering in Black Rock City. (The weather conditions just kill me.) But your video brought me the best memories of my experience of being there. May be I should start to plan my "BurningGirl 2009"adventure?

I love this. Great freaking work. Would you be interested in being a part of a mash up film about burning man that would utilize some of this footage?
  • Jason Mongue plus 2 years ago
Hi Arin. Sure, if it's in the service of inspiring future burners and burning man creativity, then I'd love to be a part of it!

I don't know what it is about this video but I have watched about 10 times all the way through.
After seeing so many personal videos of individual burning man experiences and also documentaries
about the controversy and history, I really enjoyed this one for its simplicity, lake of any voice/interviews, range of experiences it tries to show (from silly fun to spiritual)and a little voyeuristic glimpse into someone elses camp and friends. I have started sending it to people who have never been but want to know what it is about and to old tired burners to remind them of the fun. Maybe it is the track selection? Many of them are already in my personal collection and a great range.
    thanks again
    Neil
PS- I have even posted this video to facebook twice and a few times to some burningman related groups I am involved with.
Are you going back this year? Where do you camp- feel free to send me a message.
    Cheers

Image quality is insane...such a peaceful telling of the 2008 burn. We, the Conscious Monkey Clan are honored that our little junk The Madame Astrolabe was the parting shot into the sunset. Her sunset sails are forever burned into our memories and your work has now made them a part of the viewer's memories as well. Nice work and thanks for giving us a view of our own experience to cherish!

Thanks for the compliments and thanks being there! That moment must have been early in the week because, as beautiful a moment as it was, I didn't even remember it when I got back to the default world and started editing. But thank you for providing the shot for me. I truly love that moment when you're reviewing footage and a piece just screams "PUT ME HERE!" As soon as I re-saw this bit, I knew I had my ending.

Very nice work. Great variety. This video captures more of the simple moments than many videos.

One questions: I couldn't figure out the tune at 7:30? Very familiar.
