This is really good work, Matthew. Love the effect of the fences, and some excellent shots of planes, particularly some propellers that were strobing.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Thanks Greg! I was surprised on how a couple of the shots came out. I actually didn't even know some of the propellers could even be seen when I shot it. Thanks for the comment!

with the effect and the music it was like stepping into the past and fearing the last world war.
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Wow, that's hard-hitting. I kind of felt the same way when editing it all to look so sinister/sad.

Very cool. Like the plane flying up over a fencing a lot.

Quite a contrast with Phil's soundtrack
    Good stuff
  • Amenon plus 1 year ago
Point taken. For "Phil's soundtrack" please read: "the PlanesOverParis music in the video Phil posted".

Haha, yeah it's completely different, but I'm sure both will have equally emotional appeal to them. Thanks for the nice comment! -Matt

Awesome video, but in my opinion it's too long. You can tell the same with only 2 or 3 minutes.

    I liked it anyway. :)
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Thanks but it's not something that's trying to be told, though. If you read the description you'll see that it's just the footage of a project. I'm relaying it over vimeo to the music video director who is going to be editing it. It has to be long in order for him to have plenty to edit with, you see? I just added the dramatic music, tones, and editing so it wasn't so boring. I'm glad you liked it anyway. Thanks again!

Very impressive shots there! The colour grading looks really unique. Some shots were a little unstable, but I can forgive that. The content itself is very nice. What's your secret for getting over 200 views in 3 days? That's impressive! :D

Doug the soundtrack is a version of "Adagio". Do a search in iTunes on "Adagio" there are string versions and vocal ones too. Or you can get them at a CD shop if you can get "The Ultimate Moods" Album, look for Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Hope that helps.

    Great footage Matthew. Loved it.

Lucky one. When I went to our airport to do the same i couldn't catch more than 2 planes. The others were on strike.

This was a great idea and it was beautifully done. It just has one problem. It's too long. The material is good but not very varied. That would have been needed to keep this film intresting for 8 minutes. Otherwise, I really like it! Good work!
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
look at the comment I left someone a couple of days ago. The length is very justified. Thanks for the compliment!
  • Speldosa 1 year ago
Ah. I see. That makes sense.

I'm speechless. Rarely ever do I come across footage that would touch me in such a powerful and emotional way. Your work is so subtle yet so beautiful and powerful, cinematography at its best.

Kudos to you Matt and thank you for sharing your work. Curious to see more from you.

It just blows my mind how someone can produce such beautiful and powerful footage on an HV30 and a whole lot of companies with million+ dollar budgets produce footage and/or movies that can hardly be watched. In that regard watching your work has been very uplifting and inspirational.

So here are my two cents. This comment has been so thorough now I am done with posting personal stuff on the internet for a month or so :P

Thanks Matt, every video you help me see the true beauty in the world around us...something my world-weary eyes have trouble doing these days (without the aid of illegal psychedelics...). You're an artist, and I mean that in the true sense of the word.

I just hope the DHS isn't about to knock down your door after filming all those planes...
    ;)

Who says VJ/amateur shooting on camcorders can't be as good as the professionals? This proves them all wrong! Lovely stuff...did you put an ND filter on the lens or was all the colour/filtering done in post?
  • Matthew Brown plus 1 year ago
Hey thanks man! Yeah, everything was done in post.

Again, phenomenal use of color correction. You really got the hv30 to look like old 8mm. Beautiful and moving imagery, the shot at 1.34 broke my heart, in the best way possible.

Hey Matthew, amazing man. Love the coloring obviously, but almost moreso the use of the fence shapes vs. the planes. simple. gorgeous (in the right hands).
