About Sunday Parkways
Thousands of neighbors have already discovered what happens when streets turn into parks for Sunday Parkways. Don’t miss the second event Oct. 26.
The route will run from Garfield Park, through North Lawndale and Little Village. Bring your bikes, strollers or just yourself to meet neighbors and get energized at activity stations along the way.
Car traffic will be closed along a linear route from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for you and your family to explore Chicago’s beautiful neighborhoods in fun and active ways.
Sunday Parkways runs along Chicago’s historic and beautiful boulevard system and will connect Garfield Park, North Lawndale and Little Village neighborhoods, displaying the vibrant culture of Chicago’s communities along the way
Dance, play and exercise at activity stations in Garfield Park, Douglas Park and Tepochcalli School throughout the morning.
How does it work? Participants, with the help of traffic control aides, obey traffic signals of cross streets. These cross streets remain open to car traffic, meaning that Sunday Parkways does not affect the surrounding street network or traffic flow.
Lead organizations from these communities have driven the momentum around Sunday Parkways and have been working with the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and the City to make it a reality.
