I was once asked to produce a self-portrait. Year 2007. I tried to find a balance between crypticism and openness. The result is a piece that heavily relies on the text. The voice over doesn’t explain what you are seeing but is a parallel narrative that interacts with it. The problem is: it makes it difficult to follow. (Specially if you are not a Spanish speaker. I’ll upload a translation)
The fact that it relies so much on text is in fact quite self-portraying. I do rely a lot on my writing. ‘Still Instant’ and ‘Hypnotic Ttip’ are probably a reaction to this text overload. At some point I started to feel the need to concentrate on simple movement, on the sensuality of moving image. For the ‘City of Fear’ however, I go back to my origins and build a piece again that puts a lot of weight on the voice over.
