truly amazing stuff! The art work embeded into 3D rocks! Can you explain something about the 3D software and texture painting method used?? thanks
  • Arthur Gil Larsen 1 year ago
    Thank you Juan=)
The 3D software we used was Maya (No 3D lights used)
and we animated everything on 2's/stepped keys.

Compositing was done in fusion(where 2D light's were used doing gradients). I have a link to Bo Mathorne's making of which show's how the texture and modeling worked on the characters: vimeo.com/19954543

    Awesome work!
This project is one of the best things I've ever seen. I really appreciate your (and Bo's) behind the scenes. Understanding how you guys did things and taking a peek into the sketches and processes only makes me admire your work more.

    I salute thee!

I've watch your film like 5 times now, truly amazing and inspiring work. I was wondering what you guys used for texturing? It seems like a really hard job to do with just unfolding and then painting in Photoshop. Did you do it in Mudbox or something so you can paint on the models in 3D view?
  • Arthur Gil Larsen 1 year ago
    Thanks Siebe =D
I did not model/texture/rig the characters, but all textures were done in Photoshop and drawn before the characters where modeled (So it was done the other way around and not the standard way you do it) Besides, the polygon count of the characters are kept extremly low and simplified.

The backgrounds are build in 3D but here the texture is projected from the camera angle, making it easier to paint. After that it's brought into photoshop for more finishing touches (So most of the backgrounds end up as a 2D image since it does not have any camera moves)

You can see some of the characters on Bo's making of

The 2D animation (I mean the blood and some motion) is great and impressive. This animatin cannot lack of your 2D animation.
The pre-production is great also. Love this animation's style and it is a good reference for every like animation.
(Um, I just wonder do you have reference of the flash aniamtion? eg. the motion of blood gushing.)
