The team from Nyaru Menteng got a call from people in a small village about one hour drive from the centre. They could pick up an orangutan, a girl around 4 years old.
The rescue team from Nyaru Menteng always asks officers of the Forestry department to join them to give the confiscation a legal status. Papers have to be signed.
Nyaru Menteng gives the people brochures, posters and a T-shirt and tries to convince them not to take another baby orangutan in the house, but next time they see a orangutan mother with baby to call the centre.
I had the privilige to witness the whole procedure and to see how important this work is.
The vet said that she was no more than 2 years old and that she had lived in the wooden cage for more than a year !
I also had the great privilige to give her a name: ANOUK !
