On January 22, 2011 Occidental College students, faculty, and staff joined together to recognize Martin Luther King Day through participation in the MLK Day of Service Challenge, collaborating with a wide range of community partners on service projects ranging from painting and gardening to archival organization and neighborhood beautification.

Students from the Occidental Film & Media Studies Program took on a challenge of their own--documenting the day's activities and editing together this short video in time for screening at the day's closing ceremonies.

Many of the organizations have standing partnerships with Occidental throughout the year, underscoring that service is not a one-day venture, but a mode of daily citizenship and existence.
