While reading the Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, I came across a poem written by Philip Lopate titled We Who Are Your Closest Friends. The poem conjured up strong images and cried out to be filmed. Staying true to the text, I scripted the poem and filmed it with friends playing roles drawn from the poem. Once completed, I sent the film to Mr. Lopate, who graciously granted his permission to use the poem as the text of the film.
