This is my first attempt at music visualisation, using the Processing programming language, building on the Zeno animation system I've been developing for my first two videos Music is Math and Metamorphosis. This time it's Radiohead with their Bodysnatchers track from In Rainbows.

What has helped this particular form of music visualisation is that it's already based on a pre-existing generative animation system, so the audio reaction just adds another dimension. It's a 50/50 generative + audio reactive piece.

gorgeous, love the colors, and the infinite zoom and fractal detail. Personally I would advise a bit more easing on the camera though... :P

i know what you mean, it's the main criticism i'm expecting, but there are parts where it's really effective and gives it an edge i think, i didn't want to loose these by smoothing out too much.

Yes. Great work Glenn! I am really excited to watch this Zeno system grow. I would say I have to agree with the criticism about the camera movement though. Maybe consider pre-programming certain moments? Unless you consider that cheating :)

okay i give in, camera could be better. it actually just needs an attack as well as a decay when the audio 'spikes' - it falls of nicely, but attacks instantly, causing the jerks. - but i'm still generally happy as it suits the grungy edgy feel of the song - especially at 3'25 ish.

No, don't change it. I am just trying to offer constructive comments. BTW, I was wondering how you made those little fractal flames before I went to your blog! They are nice.

You might think of putting together some source code, or making a tutorial for something simple, like a line, (such as in, "Music is Math") that responds to pitch changes.

yeah might have a think about something like that..

This is SO GOOD! I've tinkered with Processing but you and flight404 provide the inspiration for me to really try and get into it properly and make something. Thanks for that!
