such a good idea dude! thank you!
  • JT GURZI 1 year ago
Thanks Cory. It was actually quite scary having Patrick ride onto the interstate in that first shot. It was a blind corner. Fun fun fun though.

Wish the media played better here.

    Thanks again man.

Very good sense of narrative. can I ask how you desaturated the colors? Dyane
  • JT GURZI 1 year ago
    Dyane,

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it.

The film was exposed without filtration or any in camera manipulation. We photographed a clean negative so that in our Digital Intermediate (DI) or telecine session we would have the freedom and dexterity to then commit to a uniform look. This look was achieved on a 2k Da Vinci after a Spirit scanned the negative.

If you're not familiar with the film process here's a quick and dirty post-process:

Expose film> process as indicated (normal/pushed, etc.)> prep for telecine> scan negative(at telecine house)> treat/color footage (telecine artist)> export media (hard drive/HD/ etc.)

    I hope that helped.

I really like opening wide shot- how the lines pull you into frame. Nice song too.
  • JT GURZI 1 year ago
Thank you Hunter. I appreciate your feedback. Portland... Hoooo!!!!!!!

Hey JT. You've got some inspirational videos and I thank you for your humility in sharing editing concepts. I've only just joined Vimeo and your work has been the first I've seen. Cinematic Orchestra caught my eye... All the best for your future projects. I'm definately a fan! This is a great song.

    Zane,
Thank you for the kind words. Vimeo will blow your hair back. Go to 'my likes' and sample some of the work I've found. It's inspirational indeed.
I checked out your website. It looks wonderful. Very clean. Great photography! I was introduced to filmmaking via 10 years of skateboarding.
Stay in touch man. South Africa. That rules!

Yes! Awesome video and indeed a superbly awesome song :O Damn that was good...

    Samu,
Thanks for the kind words. They're much appreciated. I like the song myself. Patrick Park actually has a new album coming out early next spring. From what I've heard it's quite stellar.
  • Samu Ainesmaa 1 year ago
Oooh thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for that :O

Btw the green screen worked quite well, you had me fooled for a moment :D (it was green screen was it not 0_o)
  • JT GURZI 1 year ago
Yeah, it was a green screen.

To tell you the truth I'm not very happy with that aspect of the video. I wanted to give a wink to the viewer by having his feet on the handle bars or something to that nature. I wanted to insinuate our understanding of the fact that it wasn't trying to be entirely believable.

Thanks for the kind words anyway Samu.

I really enjoyed this video. I'm trying to save up for a 16mm Arriflex camera, possible an s/b model. And it's productions like these that that prove that film will be with us for a while to say the least.

I've been shooting Super-8 for a while now and can't wait to shoot 16mm.
  • JT GURZI 1 year ago
    Justin,

    Thanks for the kind words.

Great to hear you've been shooting super 8mm. Film is expensive and a privilege but boy is there a difference. I have a greater appreciation for HD now that 35mm adapters have hit the markets but still love the latitude of film stock.

    Yeah,
    JT
