When the Department of Transportation raised the speed limit on Highway 6 in Lakewood, the highway noise in Sue McMahon's back yard became unbearable. Never one to sit back and complain, Sue went directly to the Lakewood Library to see what she could do about it! After months of research, Sue put together a community coalition to build a soundwall along the highway, made out of recycled tires. This innovative solution not only improved the quality of life for Sue's neighborhood; it has the potential to benefit other communities nationwide.
