A fully functional Super 8 Movie Projector I built using Lego Technic. The only non-Lego parts are the lens, the reel spindles and the lamp.

The projector uses just two engines and is fully featured with automatic feeding, 24 fps, fast rewind and 120m reel capabilities. A decent LED flashlight makes it pretty amazingly bright. :)

    Love it! Ingenious.
I'd say go for a Xenon model, but that would melt the projector..:-)

Very cool! Please submit this idea to the Lego company. Would love to see it at Toys R Us someday!

Either that, or please provide schematics. Thanks!
  • I'll try -- but drawing schematics afterwards turns out difficult. :)

Just do a super long live DEMO of recreating it. Forget schematics. :D

Amazing, how long did it take?
  • Friedemann Wachsmuth plus 9 months ago
We started on a cozy weekend in our cabin at the sea and continued on several hour-ish night sessions... total probably about 25 hours. Lots of trial and error before it all worked smoothly.

Excellent build & video! The functionality is quite something.

Where did you buy the lens that you used? I've tried googleing the name but haven't turned up any similar results.

It's arandom lens form some cheapo Noris Projector. Nothing special or fancy. I dremel'd a bit of the socket off to make it fit better. Would not do that with a good lens :)
