Until recently it was thought that the Moon arose from the original nebula from which planets and many satellites were formed. But as a result of the journeys of the Apollo missions, the theory arose that our satellite was formed as a consequence of a collision between the Earth and a large celestial body. This theory has been backed up by computer simulations showing in images how this catastrophic event could have taken place.
In the segment “The Formation of the Moon” you can see in a realistic way how this cosmic encounter could not only have created the Moon, but also the basin on Earth that today forms the Pacific Ocean.
