19. Diego Stocco - Dustland
"Dustland" is a cinematic sounding improv that I recorded with the Fence Bass. This instrument has a rough and edgy sound since it's all made of metal, so I imagined a piece that could work in a modern Western film, I'm a fan of the genre.

Everything is created in real time, no pre-existing loops, additional tracks or post-efx involved. I built a chain of processors in Live that I control with a pedal board, all rhythmic parts and ambiences are derived from whatever sound/noise comes from the Fence Bass.
I hope you'll like it!

The track is available at my Bandcamp page (if you wish to download it for free or name your price): diegostocco.bandcamp.com/track/dustland

It's up also at my Soundcloud page: soundcloud.com/diegostocco/diego-stocco-dustland

your creativity in sounddesign never fails to amaze me. this is great!
  •
  • The booming thud of the instrument makes it so animal like!

Hey Eric, cool that you mention that ah ah : D

I just posted more technical details about the routings I created in the Live session, one of the sound design processors I created is called "Weird Animal Generator", it's the one that creates that distorted tonal feedback you can hear at 1:32

I've been reduced to being an inarticulate buffoon! All I can say is "WOW"!!! I've looked at a couple of your other vids featuring other instruments you've devised. Again, "WOW"! I've gathered that you're a Western buff but feel that your works would compliment various cinematic genres. I'm truly privileged to have come across your project/s.

One of the most evocative and atmospheric pieces I've ever heard. It's incredibly ominous and foreboding. It gives me lots of inspiration, and the brain explodes with imagery.

if i can ask.. wich kind of microphones do you use? do you use one in the tube, like piezo, and a NT4 outside for the strings? impressiv how it sounds.. ableton together with your instrument is a blast :)
  • Diego Stocco plus 11 months ago
