The craziness of the wedding season can sometimes leave me feeling exhausted and burnt out, but Mary and Justin were a breath of fresh air that I can only begin to describe. Their love for each other and their family and friends was not only huge, but genuine. I remember my first meeting with them (after accidentally standing them up because our house water main broke). They were both TOTALLY in love, completely unaffected by the sometimes crazy-making process of planning a wedding. In fact, I recall thinking, "This is how every couple should be!"
As the day of the wedding approached, my wife and I were almost giddy with excitement to capture their big day! Mary's parents' house in Arroyo Grande, CA, was the perfect setting for exchanging "I do's", but it came with no small effort. Justin spent months preparing the house for their special event and it showed. As the owner of Teague Electric, I knew Justin must be pretty handy and that turned out to be an incredible understatement as I stood on the house balcony looking down at the completely re-landscaped backyard. Where there was once a long sloping hill, stood a level, perfectly manicured lawn - perfect for an outdoor reception. I realized then, that Justin was not only handy, but a visionary. It was simply beautiful. Add to that a mind-blowing floral and coordinating job by Laurel at Adornments, a photo booth from Shutterbooth, catering by Debbie Dugan and cupcakes by Amy Bakes Cupcakes and you're looking at the setup for a perfect day!
Words will forever fail to adequately describe the love and joy expressed as Mary and Justin exchanged vows overlooking rolling hills and sun-drenched vineyards. Maybe that's why Mary and Justin often refer to their story as 'magical'. The ceaseless smiles and fought back tears brought me back to my own wedding, and the feelings I felt towards my beautiful wife, Katherine. The emotions that I was observing began welling up inside of me and in just a moment, I remember thinking, "This is awesome. This is magical. This is how it should always be."
I pray that this video captures even a fraction of the love, friendship, sacrifice, commitment and joy we experienced as we shot this wedding. Enjoy.
