43. Me Right Now: More Xacti Tips
Some more tips for the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 with TomRig Pro and my new Xacti HD1010 with Centurylens. The stereo sound sounds in reverse but you're looking in a mirror! How to get your old 37mm lenses into the 40.5mm Xacti ring. And a warning for possible problems with the inner ring fitting from HD1010. The underwaterbag I use for Xacti is the EWA Marine Model VPC but maybe they have a new one specially for the Xacti soon. For the special small windshield for your Xacti or a TomRig, if interested mail me. The Led Light is the miniversion of Litepanels.com. It's called Litepanels Micro LED. They cost $299 US and we have imported them from US for our Global-DVC members. Also new are the 8 GB Sandisk High Performance Video (SDHC) Cards up to 13Mbps HD High 80 minutes and 120 minutes in HD Std Quality. Comes with trial Arce Media Converter and Total Media Extreme. The two cards edited on two tracks in Vegas9.

You are a pioneer sir! How is it possible though to film inside the waterproof bag with the LCD closed. It looks as though it would not fit with the screen open?

    Thanks!
  • Jan van der Meer plus 1 year ago
AHA Just turn the LCD and push it flat on the side and its flat as when it is closed but now you can see what you film even through the plastic, its only the reflecting sunlight under the water that might be a problem, but it works! You also can make from some wire on top of the bag a target frame or cross as help!

Jan, you always bring a smile on my face. And don't get me wrong, i LOVE the way you present hardware like this and I'm convinced this would workout great if it happened more.
A product sells far more better when users tell the users. I hope to see many more episodes with new hardware (and maybe software?) every time.

Yeah but it abslorps so much of my limited time this live, love to do it though, but still have to earn some money too! So DVC members first!

    Great stuff as always Jan!
There's a special underwater case for Xacti here in Japan, but it's really expensive - not much cheaper than the camera itself. :-O

    ... good vertellt! ;))
are there any big improvements in the 1010 compared with the trusty hd1000?
  • Jan van der Meer plus 1 year ago
Danke DuDa! Cant really answer this yet. No really big differences, may be slightly better pics quality. Slo mo is very limited (just 5 seconds, no change in zoom possible, only 3:4 and you needs loads light) Rest picturs seems just a bit darker and sharper, brightness & exposure on LCD screen depents on viewingdirection and makes it difficult to manuel exposure.

I am so glad to have stumbled onto your videos! I just got an HD2000 for my birthday and I am really excited about it. My wife and I travel a lot and recently went to South Africa where, if I had my new camera there, would have made an even better video than I did with my still cameras. You tips have already vastly improved my shooting techniques. Thank you SO much!

Very nice to hear eh read Richard. We visit SA nearly every year. Potography for AMerican Express travel brochures.
Also producing loads of stockshots for Pond5.com. So if you missed that shot in Cape Town on Table Mountain or some animals from Kruger Park we have it or soon coming! pond5.com/artist/DVC

Hi Jan, I love your videos, great tips..... where can I get the windshield for the HD1010? I need this!!!!
  • Jan van der Meer plus 4 months ago
I designed one exactly to fit the microphone at the back of the LCD. l let them specially made by a German Windshield Compagny. A grey longhair one. Made with a kind of sticky paper which let all the sound go through. They only sell them to us, but the price is extreme, so are all things which are specially manufactured for a small usergroup. But the result is great! Please email me for price and shipping details: HDV (69) LIVE.NL

Thanks Jan, I appreciate it but this is with the underwater housing? I was looking for a video with the Marine model bag... you mentioned that you have tried that one out. Do you have any sample video from that?

    Thanks again...

    Mr. Van der Meer,
Could you please tell us how much the TomRig is selling for and give us a link to the site. Every time I goggle it, it does not come up.
