In a culture dominated by consumption, the human race is journeying further and further away from our natural roots. Human disconnection from nature is the illness of the 21st century - it not only causes imbalance in ourselves but our domination of, and separation from, nature is the philosophy that has brought us climate change. How can we develop a connection not just our immediate surroundings but with nature in general? How can we find a place in nature?
This short film is my submission for a university assignment. We organised and ran a 14 day 'expedition' in the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains, NSW, Australia. The journey took us from the Australian mainland's highest peak of Mt. Kosciuszko and rafting down a once mighty Snowy River. The film explores many issues but predominately focuses on the interactions of humans and the natural world they are a part of.
I shot all scenes/photos, and wrote and played the soundtrack myself.
I hope you enjoy your Journey into Snowy Country.
