What happens to an impoverished developing nation town when you flood it with 20,000 bicycles? You lift three times that number of people out of poverty. Pedals for Progress and founder David Schweidenback have been shipping used American bicycles to Rivas, Nicaragua for the last two decades and the transformation has been incredible.

Hi Greg. Wow, really great - can't wait to see the final film. We're working on a similar project here in South Africa - it's called Bicycle Portraits and we've been photographing everyday South Africans who commute and use bicycle as a means of independence for well over a year. The project will become a book and documentary very soon. Have a look -

Looks like a beautiful story! Great characters, beautiful filming, perfect edit.

Were most of the shots filmed on the Canon? What did you use to stabilize the moving shots/bicycle shots?

I'm using a Panasonic GH1 down here in Guatemala to film news stories (and starting work on a doc) and am still learning the strengths/weaknesses of shooting with a DSLR. Locked down shots are great ... taking the camera off the sticks takes a lot more practice ...

Look forward to seeing the finished piece.

The last song is called When You're Older, and it is by Jenny Mayhem. She is listed as a crew member above or you can check out this link to her vimeo page.
